Allergy Testing

Allergy tests are used to determine a patient’s sensitivity to specific allergens. A plastic pick dipped in an allergen is used to scratch the skin on the arm or back. Each allergen is noted using numbers written on the patient’s skin. After the tests are performed, the patient will wait for approximately 15 minutes. During the waiting period the allergens to which the patient is allergic will become red and itchy. The physician will interpret the results in the office and the results will then be given to the patient at that time.
